Blog Audit: Updating My About Pages

#bloggingbranding, about pages, audit, auditing, customization

Yep, my About pages needed some work.

Note: I’m going to cheat today. I will use this post to do two things: Work on my Branding and Growth course, and to publish a post for Write Anything Wednesday.

Now, for the second assignment in the Branding and Growth course, I had to audit my blog and figure out what needed to be changed. Since I had already made a number of changes during the Intermediate Customization course, I was pretty comfortable with my blog so far. However, I was willing to make changes to my About Pages.

Previously …

I got rid of these images from my sidebar:

Blogging U.

Commenting Bootcamp

I made some textual changes to some of the widgets on my sidebar.

I added a new banner (although I still need to work on it).

And I added my logo above the navigation.

Since those things were done, that meant my actual pages needed to be audited. The About pages stood out to me first and foremost.

The Old Text from My “About [Me]” Page

Hi there. I’m a crazy Aries that came over from Naruto Forums. This blog will be to preserve some old posts, expand on them, and to share new thoughts. I may also share some art projects I work on.

I’m an aspiring artist and writer. My dream is to write books for children and adults and to illustrate for those works. While I never been a strong public speaker, I have always loved to write and have found my voice through journaling and short stories. I have even managed to earn some commissions for my art but would love more.

On the way to trying to realize this dream of mine, I studied as a graphic designer, graduating with an Associate’s Degree in 2014. I might need a Bachelor’s Degree for most lucrative job openings, but I have held off on that for the time being — mostly because the job hunt is full of BS, but I’m still trying. For now, I would like to work on improving as an artist and several areas and improving as a writer.

I am currently working as a contributor to a company that runs a blog. Tbqh, I enjoy this job and I love my boss. It’s an excellent work environment, yet I want to grow from there.

The job has helped me with my personal writing. Besides, I have a lot on my mind and keeping my thoughts in a blog helps me to get those thoughts out and serves as a form of therapy. Some posts require research, so this is also an opportunity for me to learn new things.

Of course, I have other interests. Btw, I have a YouTube Channel called Shmaltz and Menudo (originally: TheOtherShmaltz), but I have not really used it yet to make videos. All I have are two short videos from Mario Kart 8 replays. Stay tuned.

The Old Text from the “About This Blog” Page

If you would like to know how I came up with my username, read this post.

Many of the entrees in this blog will be reposts from Naruto Forums, with a number of revisions were appropriate. Just be warned: most of these initial posts will be about the finished Naruto series. There will still be plenty of musings about pop culture and American politics. You could say I have a passing interest in the WWE, although the stories aren’t quite up to snuff nowadays. And the only reason I’m into it at all is because someone got me interested in storylines years ago.

To be more specific, my posts (and reposts) will be about:

  • Anime and Manga
  • Education
  • The Internets
  • Law and Politics
  • Money
  • Music
  • People
  • Poetry
  • Sports
  • Technology
  • Television and Films
  • Video Games
  • Writing

I would also like to add to the blog with new thoughts along these issues and add categories from time as my posts become more varied. Note that I  I may never get too personal in any of my posts.

Also be warned: I suck at making up titles and many of my entries will be edited from time to time because I am human, after all (and a bit of a perfectionist).

I occasionally swear, so be warned about that, too.

Additionally …

This might be jumping ahead, but I added excerpts to the About pages.

#bloggingbranding, about pages, excerpt, customization

That option wasn’t there the last time I edited the pages. I must go back and look at my home page sometime and update that thing, too.
